When a couple purchased a one-bedroom Edwardian located in the heart of San Francisco's Russian Hill, they dreamed of transforming it into their own personal jewel box. The radical remodel included colonizing storage space behind the garage for a master bedroom suite, and capturing a screened-in porch to expand the kitchen.

The homeowners envisioned a decorative and artistic domicile, reflective of their Bloomsbury-inspired sensibilities and love of color and pattern. Every material - from the over-scaled flower mosaic in the kitchen to the personalized Pompei-like artisan plaster in the dining room - was approached with a curatorial eye.

Frequent socializers, the couple wanted an exciting place to entertain guests and hold dinner parties, as well as cozy spots for reading on Sunday mornings by the fire. The artistic mix of materials, colors, patterns, and furnishings play to the house's old-world bones, while adding a quirky twist that is at once personal and entirely original.
