The full-scale transformation of this former writer's cottage into a polished weekend retreat retained a sense of the home's Bohemian, arts-and-crafts vibe while fulfilling the owners' desire for a serene and low-maintenance abode in which to recharge.
With this in mind, forgiving materials were chosen throughout, such as the French blue limestone floors used in the kitchen and dining area. In keeping with the rustic setting, soaring wood ceilings were left unfinished, while the steel-and-copper fireplace sets an elemental tone of warm craftsmanship that is echoed by the artisanal kitchen tile and custom concrete countertops.
Furnishings were also selected to feel unfussy and in harmony with the awe-inspiring natural beauty of this enclave along the Northern California coast. Modern shapes with clear colors create a warm, inviting environment in which to read, seek refuge from the elements, and hang out with family and friends.
